Globehopper
Note: The game has been updated after the 48-hour time limit. You can also play the 48-hour compo version, if you wish.
File size update: I managed to ditch some large library dependencies the game had, and whittled the filesize down to about a tenth of what it was, so it’ll load a lot faster especially now.
Character model update: I switched the FroGames character model to one that I made myself. It has a similar look in that it’s a sort of generic person with no texture. The major difference is that I made this one myself, and it’s of lesser quality.
Comments on the character model are appreciated.
Globehopper is my entry for Mini Ludum Dare 12. The theme was Wikipedia/Mediawiki, and specifically using content from such a wiki in your game. The bonus theme was Duke Nukem Forever, which is why my game uses content related to the DNF article on Wikipedia by default. The game will take all the links to other wiki pages on a given page and generate planets randomly in space for each linked page. The size of a planet is relative to how many links there are on that particular page. The game uses the Unity 3D game engine. The main character is from FroGames’ ProtoPack.
Instructions:
WASD to move.
Spacebar to jump very high.
R to reset game to a random page on Wikipedia.
F to reset game to Duke Nukem Forever’s page on Wikipedia.
Your goal is to reach the checkpoints that you are given on the bottom of the screen. Your progress is shown at the top right corner of the screen. The target checkpoint will be hilighted in the gameworld with a lighter blue planet and a pink label.
NOTE: Some random pages on Wikipedia might not always be playable if a planet falls to far from the others. I have tried to prevent this though. Also, there is a bug that beating a one-planet level will not grant you victory, but then I like to think of that as a feature.
